12/04/2010 – UNStudio’s design for the Eifman Dance Palace will be presented in the Central Museum for Communication in St. Petersburg, as part of the ‘Window on the Netherlands’ exhibition showcasing contemporary Dutch Architecture. The exhibition opens today and will run until April 24th 2010.

02/04/2010 - UNStudio’s Music Theatre in Graz has been shortlisted for the 2010 ULI Awards for excellence covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The competition is part of the Urban Land Institute’s Awards for Excellence programme, established in 1979, which is based on ULI’s guiding principle that the achievement of excellence in land use practice should be recognized and rewarded. ULI’s Awards for Excellence recognize the full development process of a project, not just its architecture or design. The criteria for the awards include leadership, contribution to the community, innovations, public/private partnership, environmental protection and enhancement, response to societal needs, and financial viability.

Ben van Berkel is participating in the exhibition ‘Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum’. For the building’s 50th anniversary, the Guggenheim Museum invited nearly two hundred artists, architects, and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the space for the exhibition. The show will be on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from February 12 to April 28, 2010.

An extensive interview with Ben van Berkel was recently published in the Dutch daily newspaper De Volkskrant. The article appeared in the interview series by Coen Verbraak, in the Saturday Supplement on march 20th 2010.

Nov 16th 2009 – The foundation stone for the Centre for Virtual Engineering was laid in Stuttgart yesterday. The ZVE, part of the Fraunhofer Institute of Industrial engineering, is located on their research campus in Stuttgart Vaihingen. The 4 storey, 3,100 m2 facility will serve as a platform for the research, development and testing of virtual reality technologies and innovative working and office concepts. The ZVE building is due for realization in 2011.

UNStudio has been awarded 1st prize in the recent competition for the masterplan of the Beijing River Creative Zone, located in Yanqing, 200km from Beijing. From the nine projects presented (Foster+Partners (UK), Zaha Hadid (UK), Atelier d'Architecture Christian de Portzamparc (FR), AS. Architecture-Studio (FR), Beijing Tsinghua Urban Planning &Design Institute (CN), Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (CN), NPS (US) and KCAP (NL)), UNStudio's design was selected as the winning entry.

Today the municipality of Rotterdam and Rotterdam Post presented UNStudio's design for the redevelopment of the former post office, located on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. The presentation was held as a result of recent approval by the College of B & W for the planning framework for the project. Construction on the redevelopment of the Post Rotterdam monument will begin in 2010.
