The design for the Portland Aerial Tramway incorporates infrastructure, urbanism and architectural design concepts. The aim of the project is to create an aerial tramway providing public transport between university facilities and city areas. The tramway utilizes two tram cabins, one running from an upper terminal to an intermediate tower, with a second continuing on to a lower terminal situated in the South Waterfront District. The cabins run with a double track system and provide accessibility for bikes and wheelchairs. The upper terminal is connected to the street network via two sky bridges and incorporates a restaurant and observation tower, while the lower terminal functions for the aerial tram and other forms of public transport, such as bus, streetcar and light rail.
