The electricity station is Amersfoort is an almost entirely sealed container for three electrical transformers (50/10 kV). The polar division into two interlocking volumes is paralleled by the difference in claddings. The spatial encounters of the facade planes, through this polarity, which at times embraces a contextual dimension, refer to the invisible transformation process of electrical currents. The insulating basalt lava and the conductive aluminium present a contrast deepened by vertical and horizontal articulation. Employing light aluminium on the south facade and darker basalt lava on the north explicates the spatial context.
