The exhibition design of the Summer of Love is the second design in the Schirn Kunsthalle. The space poses a special challenge to the exhibition designer, being 70 m. long and 10 m. wide with a circular atrium at the end. Thinking of ways to break up the linearity of the space has resulted in two different exhibition lay-outs. The exhibition of psychedelic art of the 60’s and 70’s consists of 350 highly diverse items from the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, film, environment, architecture, graphic design and fashion. Two abstracted, stretched-out spirals intertwine, generating interstitial spaces where installations and works are placed. The entire construction has been painted silver as homage to the spirit of the time.
