Wayfinding Color Study

To examine the effect and composition of different colors entering the parking garage of Education Executive Agency & Tax office in Groningen, we performed a physical model-based color study. The 3 entrances/exits (we call them kieuwen) from the parking garage into the city garden are designed with two purposes: guaranteeing sufficient natural ventilation to the parking garage and to become recognizable orientation instruments the parking.

Colored glass above the parking’s voids is used to filter the natural light creating a spatial signage in the parking garage. Different colors are tested to understand the overlap of the color zones and the possibility to understand how they work together. During the evening the artificial light of the parking will irradiate colored light in the garden, at the same time artificial color light will make the wall of the parking colored guiding the cars to the exit area.
