Lisi Green Tower is a new residential building on Lisi Hill in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi. The 11-storey tower, which also accomodates small businesses on the ground level, enjoys spectacular views over the valley of the Mtkvari River and the fast developing city of Tbilisi. The building, with its integrated connection to the new green plaza, will be the architectural anchor and new public hub of the Lisi Veranda development.
The design concept for Lisi Green Tower is based on a combination of the local and traditional Georgian ‘veranda’ approach and smart living solutions. By using verandas as spaces for interaction, the anonymous boundaries of a multi-storey apartment complex disappear. These verandas are generously planted to create sky gardens and shared spaces for interaction among neighbours. The essence of the design and the focus on the verandas is to create neighbourhoods in the sky, connecting people through architecture and social sustainability.
The tower itself is defined as a stacked volumetric composition of vertical villas which are arranged to enable the surrounding natural landscape and the large terraces to blend into a new integrated manifesto of living. This results not only in unique personalised interior spaces, but also in the creation of a new indoor/outdoor experience. The building is vertically divided to enable visual separation between the apartments and to interrupt the volume of the building along the central design element of vertical verandas. The extensive use of glass means that the apartments can enjoy extensive daylight. Together with the use of natural materials and a controlled shading system of terraces, the design and materialisation of the tower ensures that all the requirements of comfortable living are integrated in the building.
