Ben van Berkel, UNStudio's founder and Principal Architect, will speak on February 22nd at the Frame Awards, held in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.
Along with the Awards show, the Frame Awards includes an immersive blend of talks, multisensorial exhibitions and workshops.
Ben's speech, entitled "Humans at Work (Again)", addresses the major issues currently facing the labor market.
As automation replaces labour and developed economies focus increasingly on highly mobile knowledge workers, expectations for office spaces to perform a multitude of roles continues to grow. An office should be about playing, socializing and learning as much as working, re-focusing attention on the humane aspects of work. Co-working giants like WeWork offer a high-end space-as-a-service model, continually refined based on data generated by the workers within its walls. This places intense scrutiny on the individual, and humans come to represent the only constant in a changing environment of smart furniture and communication technologies.
What is the role of architects in accommodating those needs?
How can we anticipate the needs of knowledge workers and future-proof our response?
Join Ben on February 22nd to explore the answers to these pressing questions.
