Study: Wayfinding with Colour
To examine the effect and composition of different colours entering the parking garage of Education Executive Agency & Tax Office in Groningen, the Netherlands, we performed a physical model-based colour study. The three entrances/exits ('kieuwen' in Dutch) from the parking garage into the city garden are designed with two purposes: guaranteeing sufficient natural ventilation to the parking garage and forming recognisable orientation instruments.
Coloured glass above the parking voids is used to filter the natural light creating a spatial signage in the parking garage. Different colours are tested to understand the overlap of the colour zones and the possibility to understand how they work together. During the evening the artificial light of the parking will irradiate coloured light in the garden, at the same time artificial colour light will make the wall of the parking coloured, thereby guiding the cars to the exit area.
