Hanwha Headquarters Remodelling

By opting for a retrofit rather than demolition, the project preserves the building’s robust structure, reduces environmental impact, and aligns with Hanwha’s identity as a global leader in renewable energy. The new facade design integrates advanced sustainability strategies, including solar panels and responsive shading. The north facade maximises daylight, while the south facade reduces heat load through angled glazing and strategically placed photovoltaic panels to optimise solar energy harvesting.

This responsive facade not only improves the building’s energy performance but also enhances the indoor climate, ensuring comfort for its occupants.

The interior redesign focuses on flexibility and user well-being. The lobbies, meeting rooms, and office levels are connected through intuitive wayfinding, natural materials and increased daylight. The central lobbies feature warm wood tones, planting, and coffee corners to encourage social interaction. Meeting rooms balance privacy and transparency with glass enclosures, while the multi-purpose auditorium offers adaptable configurations and optimised acoustics for various events.

By remodelling in place, disruption to Hanwha’s operations was minimised, while a benchmark for sustainable retrofitting was also set.

The project demonstrates how architecture can transform existing structures into future-ready, energy-efficient spaces that reflect the values and ambitions of their users.
