Combining structure and content, the museum offers visitors an immersive experience where technology, adventure, and elegance converge. It is a space to dream, learn, and explore, while serving as a landmark for the city, honoring Stuttgart’s most famous inventor and manufacturer.
The museum’s trefoil geometry reflects the car-driven context of its surroundings, both in its internal organization and outward expression. The smooth curves of the building echo nearby industrial and event spaces, such as the Mercedes-Benz test course and the looping road systems. Inside, the spiraling ramps evoke the sensation of driving down a highway, creating a seamless journey through the museum’s exhibits.
Visitors begin their experience at the top of the building, where a multimedia Preshow presentation introduces the museum’s themes. From there, two interlocking ramps, inspired by the strands of a DNA helix, guide visitors through the exhibits. One ramp showcases the collection of cars and trucks, while the other explores the Mythos rooms, which delve into the history and milestones of Mercedes-Benz. These trajectories continuously cross, offering opportunities for exploration and connection between exhibits.
The museum’s 25,000 m2 structure reflects the qualities associated with Mercedes-Benz: technological advancement, intelligence, and timeless style. High-quality materials and durable design ensure a space that is both stimulating and comfortable. The atrium’s central ‘stem’ connects the three ‘leaves’ of the trefoil, creating dynamic spatial constellations with look-through options, shortcuts, and open and enclosed spaces.
The Mercedes-Benz Museum is not just a tribute to the past—it’s a vision of the future, where innovation and heritage come together to inspire.
