State of Extremes: UNS Research in Action

Our Research and Innovation team works to transform cutting-edge material science into practical solutions, exploring advanced materials to address challenges like urban heat and energy efficiency.

As part of the "State of Extremes" exhibition at the Design Museum Holon, UNS collaborated with Monopol Colors to present The Coolest White, an ultra-durable paint designed to address the Urban Heat Island Effect. Developed through close collaboration including laboratory research, the paint features a high Total Solar Reflectance Value, reducing solar radiation absorption and offering a practical solution for mitigating urban warming in dense metropolitan areas.

The installation showcased a two-meter-tall city model divided into two halves: one coated with The Coolest White and the other with black paint. A heat-sensing thermographic camera allowed visitors to observe the temperature differences between the two surfaces, providing a clear demonstration of the paint's effectiveness.

This project underscores the role of scientific research and material innovation in creating more sustainable urban environments.
