How Can Cities Support Parents and Caregivers Better?

UNS and Van Leer Foundation has published survey to gain insights into improving the urban environment for parents and caregivers.

Cities are often shaped around productivity and individual independence. Yet for parents and caregivers of babies and young children, urban life is experienced through the everyday realities of care. High costs, fragmented routines, limited social support, and environments not designed with children or family life in mind are often part of daily experience, rather than the exception.

This is why UNS partnered with the Van Leer Foundation to explore how cities can better support parents, caregivers, and young children in everyday life.

To do so, we put together a global survey for parents of children from 0 to 5 years old to share their experiences in cities. This anonymous survey will provide insights into the issues facing parents and caregivers across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East, and will be the foundation of design guidelines that can shape the future of our cities.

The aim is to strengthen social infrastructure alongside the physical fabric of the city, turning meaningful change into better every day experiences for families with babies and toddlers.
