UNS Unveils Korean Football Park, A New National Home for Football

UNS has completed the Korean Football Park in Cheonan, a new home for the Korean Football Association designed to support elite training, recovery, education and public engagement.

The campus brings together 11 football fields, indoor and outdoor stadiums, healthcare and fitness facilities, accommodation, retail and public spaces within one integrated masterplan. UNS designed the overall campus, including the outdoor stadium with the KFA headquarters, the indoor climate-controlled arena, and the residential hall and players’ accommodation.

Ben van Berkel says the project gives Korean football “a strong architectural brand identity, while also creating the conditions for long-term growth. It supports athletes with focused spaces for training and rest, and it gives supporters and visitors a meaningful connection to the wider story of the game.” Former South Korea national team manager, Guus Hiddink, notes that modern football depends not only on high-quality pitches, but also on advanced facilities for analysis, player development and performance support.

Developed in collaboration with specialist partners, the project also drew on the operational expertise of Johan Cruijff ArenA. Henk Markerink, the former CEO, says the layout was shaped around a clear progression from public areas to more private training spaces, helping the complex function like a small city. Sander van Stiphout, the current Director International at the arena, described the project’s dual role as both a centre for elite football and a source of inspiration for young players and the wider community.

A central plaza links the sports history museum, indoor stadium and outdoor stadium, helping organise movement across public, business and private zones. Responding to the site’s sloping landscape, the masterplan uses terraced topography to create flat playing surfaces and quieter areas for players and staff.

Designed as a year-round destination, the Korean Football Park gives Korea’s football programme a new campus that brings performance, wellbeing and public presence together in one place.
