We are very pleased to welcome Thomas Busse to UNS as the new Managing Director of our Frankfurt office. Joining the studio at an exciting moment for the team, Thomas will lead the office into its next chapter, building on its strong foundations and supporting its continued growth in Germany.

Thomas brings a wealth of experience in design leadership, international practice and the German market. Raised in Wiesbaden and educated in Darmstadt, he has spent more than two decades living and working in the Rhine-Main region. His close connection to the area, combined with professional experience across Germany, Switzerland and China, gives him a strong understanding of both local context and international practice.

After beginning his career in Germany, Thomas moved to Beijing for KSP ENGEL, where he helped establish their architectural office. During his time there, he worked on a range of cultural projects, including the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum in Nanjing, which he followed from concept through to construction. He later went on to lead design teams, gain experience on the developer side, and serve as Managing Director of KSP ENGEL International, overseeing both its Frankfurt and Asian teams.

This broad perspective now shapes his role at UNS, where he will guide the Frankfurt office in its next phase of development, with a focus on contextual design, collaboration and resilient urban development.

Speaking about his new role, Thomas said: “My main objective is to strengthen the Frankfurt office while further expanding our presence in the German market. I am truly looking forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of UNS.”

What drew Thomas to the role is the opportunity to build meaningful connections and contribute to work with lasting impact. “I look forward to strengthening UNS’s connections with local clients and increasing the visibility of both the brand and the Frankfurt studio, supported by its experienced, talented and energetic team. I am particularly excited about working in a forward-thinking international environment, engaging in fruitful discussions, and creating human-centred spaces and meaningful architecture,” he said.

We recently sat down with Thomas to talk more about his vision for the Frankfurt office, the opportunities shaping the German market, and how strong design can be delivered through local knowledge, technical rigour and long-term responsibility.
