IJbaan Cable Car

Spanning 1.5 kilometers, the IJbaan Cable Car offers a clean, fast, and efficient mode of transport, completing the journey in just 4.6 minutes at an average speed of 21.6 km/h. Designed to accommodate both passengers and cyclists, the cabins can hold 32 to 37 people, with dedicated bicycle cabins for 4 to 6 bikes.

The cable car’s three slender towers, ranging from 46 to 136 meters in height, are designed to respect Amsterdam’s UNESCO World Heritage requirements while enriching the skyline. Inspired by the city’s industrial past, the masts reference ship cranes and ports, balancing playfulness with elegance. Positioned to allow large ships to pass, the towers integrate seamlessly into the urban fabric, expanding Amsterdam’s dense urban area while honoring its history.

The cable car stations are more than transport hubs—they are vibrant social destinations.
