The new Chamartín station, developed by the Chamartín Ecosistema Abierto UTE (UNS + b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos + ESTEYCO), will be at the heart of Spain’s transition towards sustainable mobility and the main destination within one of the biggest and most ambitious urban developments in Europe - Madrid Nuevo Norte. The design for the remodelled station is set to be an integrated hub in which nature, communities and economies thrive. Open Ecosystem brings new ways of moving, working and socialising to this under-utilised part of the city and is set to make a lasting positive impact on the local community and climate.
At the heart of the design is a deep respect for the station’s history. The vaulted roofs of Chamartín station, a defining feature of its identity, are preserved and celebrated. Surrounding this heritage core, stepped terraces and urban balconies create a seamless connection with the city, offering open views and integrating the station into the surrounding parks. This porous design transforms the station into an extension of the urban fabric, inviting new flows of activity and interaction.
Flanked by new towers and fronted by a public square, the station becomes a fully integrated mobility hub, connecting seamlessly to metro, taxi, and active mobility networks. Its design prioritises accessibility, digitisation, and last-mile logistics, doubling capacity while organising flows for maximum efficiency.
Building on 30 years of expertise in station design, UNS’ vision for Madrid-Chamartín Clara Campoamor redefines urban mobility, blending sustainability, innovation, and user experience into a bold new chapter for Madrid.
