The design reflects the orthogonal city and park grid introduced in Burnham’s Plan, while incorporating diagonal elements to create 360-degree vistas. The pavilion’s form transitions fluidly between floor, wall, and ceiling, offering a continuous and multi-directional spatial experience. Three roof openings frame vertical views of the city skyline, enhancing the connection between the structure and its context.
Constructed with a steel framework, wooden ribs, and a plywood skin finished with elastic plaster and paint, the pavilion’s materiality supports its fluid geometry. A lighting system of 49 LED lights integrated into the podium highlights the pavilion’s form at night, with dynamic animations varying in intensity, colour, and rhythm. The Burnham Pavilion celebrates the interplay of structure, space, and urban context, creating a dynamic focal point within the park.
