Business School for the Creative Industries

Inspired by the concept of historical salons as spaces for intellectual exchange, the designed extension for the Business School for the Creative Industries at UCA Epsom fosters interaction and collaboration between faculty and students. The centerpiece of the design, "The Fireplace," serves as a social and functional core, connecting the new and existing buildings through an elevated circulation ring and providing a space for campus events and informal learning.

The spatial arrangement features fluid, island-like volumes connected by pathways that are anchored to daylight, ensuring flexibility and adaptability for evolving educational needs. A covered courtyard and internal garden blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, while the facade integrates natural, carbon-neutral materials to reflect UCA’s craftsmanship heritage. The design prioritises occupant wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and future-proofing through the use of renewable materials and multifunctional spaces, creating a circular building that can adapt to changing demands.
