The Canaletto residential tower in London introduces the concept of ‘vertical communities’ by clustering adjacent floors. Located in Islington, the 31-storey tower offers waterside living with studios, one to three-bedroom apartments, a penthouse, and shared amenities, including a swimming pool, health club, media room, and a resident’s lounge with a terrace on the 24th floor.

The facade design emphasises the tower’s residential character, using clusters to create a distinct identity. Contrasting materials, such as smooth metallic elements and textured finishes, enhance the building’s silhouette while maximising transparency and framing views. The facade’s surface modelling provides shading, reduces heat gains, and improves the pedestrian microclimate.

Balconies within each cluster add variability and create sheltered outdoor spaces, enhancing the living experience. Inspired by furniture design, the detailing and material contrasts lend the facade a unique residential quality.

Shared spaces include a landscaped garden on Wharf Road, framing the entrance lobby, and a public restaurant at the base. The design balances privacy with collective leisure opportunities, fostering a sense of community while offering high-quality living environments.
