Three volumes house a large auditorium, a smaller auditorium, and multifunctional exhibition space. Shaped by views and routes across the site, they meet around a central foyer. Lifting the main volume above ground level creates a sheltered public square, allowing people to move between the Expo pavilions, transport connections, park and new pedestrian bridge. The roof also offers protection from summer heat.
Each volume can operate independently, enabling different events to take place at the same time. Spaces not in use can be closed temporarily, reducing the need for staffing, servicing, heating and cooling. This flexibility supports the building’s use after the Expo.
The proposal brings the building into the landscape through coloured concrete made with local sand. Its thermal mass is intended to help absorb heat from direct sunlight. Together, these choices aim to create a connected public place with a lasting role in Zaragoza’s cultural life.
