Dance Palace

The facade features triangular cladding panels that vary between opaque and perforated, creating a balance of openness and privacy based on programme, views, and orientation. The building respects St. Petersburg’s typical 28-metre roofline, ensuring it aligns with the city’s architectural scale. A central entrance enhances its relationship with the public square, while the vertical foyer provides transparency and serves as a social space for visitors, offering a dynamic interplay of intimacy and exposure.

The theatre accommodates 1,300 guests across two auditoriums (1,000 and 300 seats). The main auditorium’s horseshoe form ensures excellent acoustics and close proximity to the stage, fostering an intimate experience. The design prioritises visibility of the dancers’ movements from every seat, enhancing the audience’s connection to the performance.

This design creates a cultural landmark that blends architectural innovation with sensitivity to St. Petersburg’s historic urban fabric.
