European Central Bank

2003

The site is designed as a landscape integrating building elements to ensure security while using the surroundings as a unifying factor. The new building accommodates the European Central Bank’s core activities across 30 office floors, with each floor plate uniquely shaped due to the building’s spherical form. A vertical void runs through the core, with a three-floor staff restaurant forming its solid centre. A vertical greenhouse wraps the void, contributing to sustainability.
