Theatre Lampegiet

The new Theatre Lampegiet is set to become the cultural living room of Veenendaal, building on the strong personal connection many residents already feel with the current venue. Developed as part of the town’s Cultural Vision, the new theatre will offer more room for performers, visitors and passers-by alike, creating an open and welcoming place where culture and social life meet throughout the day.

The building brings together an enlarged main hall, a multifunctional black box theatre, a cinema and a theatre café, all linked by a central foyer. As the heart of the building, the foyer connects performance spaces and public areas while also serving as an independent meeting place for the community. This flexible arrangement supports a broad programme, from amateur productions and local events to major performances by established artists, continuing Lampegiet’s identity as a montage theatre.

Architecturally, the design draws on Veenendaal’s textile heritage. Its distinctive roofline and woven brick façade reference the town’s wool industry, while perforated masonry, inspired by the shifting light of nearby trees and parkland, creates a subtle connection between inside and outside.
