Raffles City Hangzhou

Located in Qianjiang New Town near the Qiantang River, the development integrates residential, office, retail, leisure, and cultural spaces into a seamless "city within a city."

The project features two 60-storey towers rising 250 meters above a six-storey podium. The towers house residential units, Grade A offices, the Conrad Hotel, and a rooftop helipad, while the podium accommodates retail, restaurants, leisure facilities, and parking, with direct underground metro access. The wave-like design of the towers reflects the movement of the nearby river, creating a dynamic architectural identity that connects the urban and natural landscapes. 

Raffles City Hangzhou is designed as a 24/7 destination, offering a rich mix of programmes that foster a vibrant, socially integrated environment. Residents and visitors can live, work, shop, exercise, dine, and even get married within the complex. The east-west orientation of the towers maximises daylight while minimizing overshadowing, ensuring comfort and energy efficiency.

At the heart of the podium, a spiral atrium serves as the organisational and visual focus, connecting spaces with overlapping layers and abundant daylight. Two diagonal voids guide visitors through the retail spine, while bamboo handrails add a tactile, natural contrast to the futuristic interior. The podium’s shimmering aluminium facade and the towers’ solar shading fins create a luminous, curvilinear silhouette that transforms throughout the day and night.

Raffles City Hangzhou incorporates natural ventilation, solar gain, and daylighting principles tailored to the local context, achieving LEED Gold certification. As the first retail mall in China to use large-scale natural ventilation, it sets a new standard for sustainable urban development, blending environmental and social sustainability to create a dynamic, inclusive destination.
