Light*House

2007-2013

The Lighthouse project in Aarhus, Denmark, developed by UNS, 3XN, and Gehl Architects, transforms the harbour into a mixed-use district with private and social housing, a harbour promenade, cafés, restaurants, a skybar, and a large public square. The car-free area prioritises pedestrians and cyclists, with underground parking facilities.

The project includes 60,000 m2 of development on Pier 4, featuring 400 residences—25% of which are non-profit rental homes—and 20,000 m2 of commercial space. The design ensures all homes have access to sunlight and views, with facades inspired by light reflecting on water.

The project fosters community through terraced housing clusters, public spaces, and attractions like the skybar. It balances individualisation with collectivity, creating a vibrant urban area for residents and visitors. The tower, standing 140-142 metres tall, serves as a landmark for the development.
