The W.I.N.D. House in North-Holland integrates sustainability, automation, and flexibility, responding to contemporary living needs. Located between a wooded area and open polder landscape, the design maximises connections to its surroundings through fully glazed facades, exterior canopies, and terraces. The house’s four curving facades create petal-like wings, drawing the landscape into the interior and offering varied views.

The vertical organisation follows a centrifugal split-level principle, with a central staircase connecting living, working, and private spaces. Elevated living areas enhance views, while the roof terrace spans the front wings, overlooking the landscape. Flexible floor plans accommodate changing family needs, supporting spaces for gathering, work, and privacy.

Sustainability features include solar panels, a heat pump for heating and cooling, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Tinted glass reduces heat gain while allowing natural light, and clay stucco and bricks contribute to a healthy indoor climate. Wooden slats on the facade and roof create dynamic shadows and soft openings for secondary windows.

A comprehensive home automation system enables integrated control of electrical systems, enhancing energy efficiency and convenience. The W.I.N.D. House combines advanced technology with thoughtful design to create a future-oriented living environment.
